our pasta, our history

Since 1904, La Italiana Rivali is more than just a fresh pasta and Italian delicacy shop: we are the heartbeat of a legacy that came from Gavi, in Piedmont, passed through generations, and that flourishes today in every pasta, in every sauce, in every conversation that is cooked up behind the counter.

Our story began with Genoese great-grandparents who, dreaming of exporting Italian flavors to Latin America, stopped in Barcelona... and decided to stay. It was here, on La Rambla, that what started as a modest kiosk transformed into the city's first fresh pasta workshop, a haven of flavors that still maintains its original essence.

The 4th generation of La Italiana Rivali

Today, we are the fourth generation of our family, with the fifth already joining the workshop, and we raise the shutters every day with renewed enthusiasm. Flavor after flavor, pasta after pasta, we want every product that comes out of our kitchens to carry the warmth, dedication, and precision of Nonna.

Today, Carla Rivali is in charge of this historic corner of the city of Barcelona, as General Director and Gerard Vilà as Master Pasta Maker.
We are not just work colleagues, but life partners.

"L'amore è come pasta: better when it's fresh." - Carla Rivali

Our mission is not only to nourish bodies, but also to nourish memories, awaken emotions, and bring families and friends together around a table.

We want you to feel like you're traveling to that corner of Piedmont, to a grandmother's kitchen in Italy, when you try one of our ravioli, or smell the aroma of the freshly made sauce; but also to feel the pulse of Barcelona, the heartbeat of a city that embraces traditions and dresses them in modernity.
